PLANT SPECIFICATIONS

Major upgrade in 1997 
Design Capacity: 7.5 million gallons per day (MGD) 
Mode of Treatment: Biological & Chemical Treatment    systems.
 
BIOLOGICAL TREATMENT SYSTEM:  
 31 acres of aerated lagoons
 90,000,000 gallon storage capacity
 40 to 45 day detention time
 2 300 hp blowers produce 7,000 scfm each
 4 50 hp blowers produce 1,100 scfm each

1,600 ft north to south, 500 ft east to west, 10 ft depth 
392 sub surface air diffusers
 
Lagoon No. II 
1,280 ft north to south; 250 ft east to west; 10 ft depth 
104 sub surface air diffusers
 
Biological Treatment reduces concentrations of: 
Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD)
Suspended Solids (ss)
Ammonia Nitrogen (NH3-N)
 
Secondary Treatment System:
Chemical treatment
Ferric Chloride used to remove total phosphorus chlorine used for coliform control.
 Two 375,000 gallon capacity up flow clarifiers for phosphorus removal.
 
SYSTEM COMPONENTS:
65 miles of sanitary sewer lines. 
11 pumping stations.
11 additional pumping stations owned/operated by Pere Marquette Township, Mason County DPW, City of Scottville and Tamarac Village Mobil Home Park also pump sewage to the Ludington WWTP.
