Chief Mark A. Barnett
Chief Barnett began his law enforcement career as a police cadet for the City of Pontiac in April of 1976. He earned his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Oakland Community College. Promoted to Patrolman in October of 1979 he graduated from the Oakland Police Academy.
As a patrol officer Chief Barnett served in uniform patrol, the Traffic Enforcement Unit, the Surveillance/Intelligence Unit and the Oakland County Auto Theft Unit. He served as a sergeant in road patrol and the Community Policing Section as supervisor of the Crime Area Target Team (C.A.T.T.). Promoted to the rank of lieutenant, Barnett oversaw Special Operations Division, which included Community Policing, the Police Athletic League, the Media Specialist and Crime Prevention.
In 1999 Chief Barnett was promoted to the rank of Captain and commanded the Community Services Division, and then Investigative Services Division until his retirement in January of 2001.
On January 15th, 2001 he was appointed as Chief of Police for the City of Ludington.
Chief Barnett completed course work at the Center for Excellence in Police Management Studies; Macomb Community College, Clinton Twp., MI in 1998, and is a March 2005 graduate of the 220th Session of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy.
