AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 14, ARTICLE II,

DIVISION 3 OF THE LUDINGTON CITY

CODE TO ESTABLISH NEW RATES AND CHARGES FOR CERTAIN CEMETERY LOTS AND SERVICES AND TO REPEAL

ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH

THE CITY OF LUDINGTON ORDAINS:

Section 1.  Chapter 14, Article II, Division 3, Section 14-122 is hereby amended to read as follows:

Sec. 14-122.  Grave purchases.

The cost of purchasing grave spaces in the cemetery shall be as follows:

The cost of purchasing grave spaces in the columbarium shall be as follows:

Section 2.  Chapter 14, Article II, Division 3, Section 14-123 is hereby amended to read as follows:

            Sec. 14-123.  Grave openings/service charge.

(a)    The following charges shall be made for all cemetery grave openings (other than in the columbarium) for services conducted Monday through Friday, except on holidays, which are concluded no later than 4:00 p.m.

(b)   For all grave openings, whether for residents or nonresidents, which are made on Saturday, there shall be a charge of $500.00 for full burials and $200.00 for cremains, in addition to the charges stated in subsection (a) for this section.

(c)    For all grave openings made on Sundays or on holidays recognized under any employee contracts, there shall be a charge of $500.00 for full burials and $200.00 for cremains, in addition to the charges states in subsection (a) of this section.

(d)   For all grave openings made on Monday through Friday, but not on any holiday, which extend after 4:00 p.m., there shall be a charge of $150.00 per hour for full burials and $100 per hour for cremains, in addition to the charges stated in subsection (a) of this section, with a minimum charge of one hour for services which extend beyond 4:00 p.m.

Section 3.  Repeal all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.

Section 4.  This ordinance shall be become effective 20 days after its adoption and publication is required by the city charter. 

Sec. 14-124.  Use of chapel.

For all burials made within the city cemetery, there shall be no charge for the use of the chapel. For burials made in any other cemetery, there shall be a charge of $50.00 for the use of the chapel.

Sec. 14-125.  Storage.

For any burials made in the city cemetery, there shall be no additional charge for reasonable storage awaiting burial, due to weather or other causes. For storage awaiting burials in another cemetery, there shall be a charge of $50.00. Such storage shall not exceed a reasonable period of time necessary to allow for such burials. If storage shall continue beyond such reasonable period of time, the city may charge such additional reasonable fees as the city sexton shall deem appropriate under such circumstances.
